Bariatric physician, Dr. Jon Fisher, is following all precautions to help keep his patients and staff safe and healthy during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

As the Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation is evolving, we want all of our wonderful patients to know that we are staying informed and are following all precautions to keep our patients and staff safe. In order to comply with Governor Wolf’s recommendation, I have temporarily closed our office locations at City Ave. and South Broad St.

My Feasterville and Tabor Ave. offices will remain open, since they are Family Practice offices too. We will have limited hours, by appointment only, no walk-ins. We will see patients from all offices.

For City Ave. & South Broad St. patients: you may be seen at Feasterville or Tabor. If you have already pre-paid, you can come to Feasterville or Tabor to receive your medication.

Exercising After Age 50 to Stay Healthy and Strong

As we age, it may seem inevitable to lose strength, energy and vigor—but that doesn’t have to be the case according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Weakness, frailty and decreased energy associated with aging are in part due to muscle loss due to inactivity. When it comes to muscle, the old saying is true: “Use it or lose it.”

Doctors recommend that one of the best ways to keep muscles healthy and strong is through strength training exercises.

Regular strength training builds muscle, bone, and helps to preserve strength and increase energy. These exercises are safe and effective for men and women of all ages, even if you’re not in perfect health. If you have health concerns, such as arthritis or heart disease, you may benefit the most from lifting weights a few times each week.

The Importance of Protein in our Diets

Protein, fat and carbohydrates are essential for our well being. With protein however, our body doesn’t store it, unlike the other two. We need protein every day and here is why.

There are three types of amino acids in our body:

  • Essential
  • Non-essential
  • Conditionally essential

Your body needs 20 different amino acids to grow and function properly. All 20 of these are important for your health. (Nine of these amino acids are classified as essential)

Essential amino acids help to keep our body healthy by making new cells, enzymes and various hormones. This helps us to build muscle and lose weight.

Non-essential and conditional amino acids are made by the body as needed. Essential acids cannot be produced by our body and has to come from protein in our food.

Philadelphia Weight Loss Doctor Issues Warning about End of Summer Fast Weight Loss Products. Speak To Your Doctor First.

Dr Fisher Cleanse21 Challenge for Breast Cancer AwarenessDr. Jon Fisher, one of Philadelphia’s most respected medical weight loss doctors, warns about the dangers of products targeting people who want to lose weight fast.

With only a month left until the end of summer, you may be in a hurry to lose a few pounds before the beaches close. If so, be careful of those heavily advertised (and often misleading) products you see on the internet or at local stores promoting "fast, effortless" weight loss without exercise or lifestyle changes. While these companies are very good at telling the consumer what they want to hear, if you look closely at what they're selling, you'll see that their products often involve purchasing pre-packaged meals or drinks, herbal pills or a "starvation" diet plan that can be unsafe, costly and often helps you lose nothing more than your money!

Dr. Jon Fisher from Dr. Fisher’s Medical Weight Loss Centers in Philadelphia, PA says, “These so-called "miracle" weight loss plans and products often send dieters into a cycle of quick weight loss, followed by a “rebound” weight gain once normal eating resumes. Sadly, in many cases, the weight gained back is often greater than what was originally lost while on the diet plan!”

"My weight loss journey began on Wednesday, June 16th. This is the day I made a decision to face my weight issues once and for all. I was blessed to be introduced to Dr. Jon Fisher of Fisher’s Medical Weight Loss Centers.
As of June 30th, I have lost 11.4 pounds! I’m eating better, I feel better and I’m sleeping better. I have tried many diets before but this one is not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change program for me. It’s safe and effective.
